Expertise
What to know before going to tender.
Fourteen subjects, treated the way we treat them internally: the sizing method, what to require of a supplier, and the cost of the most frequent mistakes.
Custom software development
Software is only worth what your teams can take over.
Citizen portal and e-government
An online form bolted onto a chain that stayed manual moves the wait, it does not remove it.
Monitoring and managed services
Monitoring is judged on alerts handled, not on alerts produced.
Business IP telephony
A telephony migration is judged on the first inbound call that fails to connect.
Enterprise network
A network is designed around its degraded modes, not its headline bandwidth.
Optical fibre
The cost of an optical link is decided in the trench, not in the fibre.
Professional video surveillance
A camera is worth nothing until someone has decided what its footage is for.
Access control
Access control decays through its rights table, never through its readers.
Enterprise cybersecurity
An organisation’s security is measured by what it can restore, not by what it has bought.
Screening and metal detection
A walk-through detector with no procedure and no trained officer filters nothing, whatever its setting.
Server room and data centre
A server room is sized in kilowatts per rack, not in square metres.
Secure building construction
A building’s security is decided on the drawings, not at handover.
Industrial generator sets
A generator set is sized from a load study, never from the contracted supply.
UPS and backup power
Autonomy quoted at full load and autonomy measured on site are two different numbers.
What these pages are
Technical notes, not presentation pages.
Each page answers the questions an executive asks before drafting a tender: how rating, coverage, autonomy or lane count are determined, and how a serious response can be recognised.
They are written to be useful to someone who will buy nothing. They name no manufacturer, compare no equipment and publish no activity figures: volumes delivered belong to the project pages, where they are subject to the disclosure controls.
